Exhibitions, Workshops, Paint Outs and Nibbles

Where has 2016 gone? Only a few more weeks until the new year. The holidays are upon us! The first few months of this year, I busied myself preparing for an exhibition at the Utah Arts Festival Gallery and finishing up my two years as the Newsletter Editor for the Utah Watercolor Society (UWS). I had been asked to take on the UWS Vice President role for the coming 2016-2017 year and, in June, I was voted in as Vice President. Since then, I have been super busy with all the duties that come with the role of VP! Over the summer, I also learned that I had been selected for another exhibition at the Utah Arts Festival Gallery - but this time for their October show! So, in addition to the VP duties, I worked hard to prepare eleven new paintings for this show. In October, I was also privileged to be the UWS liaison to Iain Stewart , the national artist that UWS hosted for our 2016 Fall Workshop. He was also the juror for our Fall Member Exhibition. What an am...

Creativity while dealing with life's curve balls

Image
The last year and a half have been a challenge for our family and, in particular, the last nine months have taken much of my attention as Mom. Our youngest son was diagnosed Anxiety, causing ODD behaviors last June. We have been in therapy with him since that time. Weekly at first, then every two weeks, then three, then every six weeks - until yesterday - our most recent therapy session. Apparently we have "graduated" and that will be our last session (unless we have a major resurgence of problems). Admittedly, I am a little nervous going it alone, but the the therapist seems to have confidence in my skills to assess the situations and adapt our approach to his behavior in order to achieve positive results. I think child therapy sessions would really be more aptly named "parenting therapy." We have learned some great tools and techniques to help us better communicate with our little one as well as improve behavior and cooperation. But, there are always setbacks and ...

Nibblefest December 2012

Image
It's Nibblefest time again on ebay! :) Search NFAC to see all the great entries by great artists. This monthly art contest always gives new meaning to the words "artistic license" as you browse the many interpretations of a theme. This month's theme is "Mushtrooms." At first, I wasn't plannig to enter for December. It has been such a crazy busy month at work and home. But then, as is typical more often than not for me, I had a little glimmer of inspiration at the very last minute. So, here is my little interpretation of the theme....with a butterfly spin of course! :) You can click here to go directly to my ebay auction if you wish. This is an ACEO (size 2.5" x 3.5") and is done in watercolor and ink. The Nibblefest auctions all start at just $0.99 each, and the winners are determined based on the number of unique bidders to your auction. Thanks for checking in on my blog today! Happy Holidays to each of you. :)

Nibblefest June 2012 - "The Big P"

Image
Nibblefest - June 2012 This month's theme: Birds (and other Feathered Friends) I thought a peacock would be a fun subject...especially for summer. Peacocks always remind me of gardens and the zoo...and other fun summer activities! This particular guy is so confident in his ineherent appeal to "the ladies" that he doesn't even feel the need to spread his feathers. He struts around the grounds knowing who's boss! He's "The Big P!" Click here if you'd like to go to the ebay auction (auction ends on June 27th). :)

Creating a Kokopelli

Image
This month the Nibblefest theme is Elements. We are usually limited to three entries per theme, but since there are four elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water), we could enter up to four as long as each entry represented a different element. (Nibblefest is a monthly art contest on ebay. The participants each create artwork around a monthly theme. Each auction must start on or after the 20th of the month, and must end on the 27th of the month; and each auction must start at only $0.99. Search NFAC or ART NFAC each month to find the Nibblefest entries) I've been thinking about creating a series of Kokopelli paintings for a while, but hadn't formed in my mind exactly the path I wanted to take on that journey. (As you may already know, I love the Moab, UT and Arches National Park. If you ever go to Moab, you will see Kokopelli everywhere!) So, when this theme came up on the Nibblefest list, I decided it might be a good time to turn "thinking about it" into "doi...

One more Nibblefest offering

Image
I liked the idea of a series of Chinese symbols like those I did for last month's Nibblefest (themed: Letters, Numbers, and Symbols). So, I think each month of Nibblefest going forward, I will include at least one offering that is a Chinese symbol of the monthly theme (as long as I am able to find a symbol that fits). This will build a series with variety and yet consistency. :) So, here is my Nibblefest auction #2:  " Moonlight " Moonlight  - watercolor  ©2012

Nibblefest Time! Jan 2012 - Theme: "Letters, Symbols, and Numbers"

Image
After the wonderful watercolor workshop I took last weekend, I have been feeling my creative juices flowing again. So, I decided to get back in the Nibblefest game this month and created three new paintings based on the January theme: Letters, Symbols, and Numbers. For those who are unfamiliar...Nibblefest is a monthly art contest on ebay. Each month there is a theme assigned. Artists who participate may list up to three auctions for artwork created around the theme. Two of the three must be original, one may be a reproduction. All auctions must be listed on or after the 20th of the month and must end on the 27th. All auctions must start at $0.99. The winners of the contest are determined by the auctions with the most unique bidders. I enjoy this contest and it's a fun way to stretch your artist's brain. I love looking at all the auctiosns to see other artists' interpretations of the theme. You can view all the Nibblefest auctions by searching "NFAC" on ebay...

NFAC Dec 2011 - "Landscapes"

Image
I haven't had time for a new painting yet, but here is my entry for the December Nibblefest - theme is Landscapes. This little painting is titled 'Bryce Canyon Color Study" and is a little color study I did in preparation for a larger painting of the same subject matter. I am hoping I might get another landscape in before the end of the Nibblefest, but not sure since I still have two little paintings and one big to finish. But, glad I had this one that would satisfy the theme for this month. :) We'll see how it does! http://www.ebay.com/itm/NFAC-DEC-Jennifer-Love-Artwork-Landscape-Bryce-Canyon-watercolor-art-painting-/200691551583?pt=Art_Paintings&hash=item2eba260d5f

Oct Nibblefest...came and went.... :)

Image
Nibblefest for October came and went. The theme was "Still Life." I did two little paintings. "One Pumpkin" sold during the Nibblefest auction week. "Sicilian Blue" did not, but I have revised it and reposted it on ebay. I didn't like the original background, which was all pink and didn't provide good enough contrast for the vase. I like the brown background much better. :)

September 2011 Nibblefest - Ode to Blue

Image
It's Nibblefest time again! This month's theme is "Ode to Blue" Here are my three entries: "Blue Lady" (original watercolor)  SOLD! "Sunrise in Blue" (original watercolor)  SOLD! Print of "Dancer in Blue"  SOLD!

Nibblefest Award

Image
I won third place for my August Nibblefest entry "Fence." Very cool! :) Awards are based on the number of unique bidders for your auction. The "award" is a badge that I can post on my ebay "me" page and other auctions (and here on my blog, facebook, etc..) "Fence" sold to a buyer in Austria and my other two entries sold as well. :) I have participated in Nibblefest three times now since June of this year and have sold my paintings each time. I am liking this little ebay contest. Seems to have a following of collectors! Next months Nibblefest theme is "Ode to Blue." Look for my entries on or around the 20th with the auction ending on the 27th. :)

Nibblefest - Aug 2011 "On the Farm"

Image
Only one day left on bidding for Nibblefest for August. All three of my entries have bids this month...cool! :) The August theme is "On the Farm" and I have three entries listed (two original paintings and one print). Nibblefest has been a fun activity for me to participate in each month, and a good way to expose work to new collectors. Each time I have participated in Nibblefest, my paintings have sold - NICE! It's also fun to take on the challenge of creating work around a theme each month. Some themes are not as comfortable territory as others for me, but I like accepting the challenge. It's good to expand your artist brain with unfamiliar exercise once in a while.  :) Here are the three entries: "Red Barn & Summer Flowers" (Created specifically for this Nibblefest) "Fence" (painted in 2003 - this painting is signed with my maiden name, but I have signed again on back with Jennifer Love and also added title and copyrig...

Nibblefest ~ June 2011 Theme: "Things with Wheels" - SOLD :)

Image
SOLD! :) 2nd month of Nibblefest, and second painting sold. This is a fun little monthly exercise for me, though I'm not sure how I will fare with next month's theme which, if I recall correctly, is "fantasy creatures." My June Nibblefest auctions start Friday after 1pm (MDT) on ebay. Click the pics below to go to the auction page. :) (I have one original painting "Wagon Wheel & Watering Can" - you will recognize this as smaller version of "Watering Can 2"; and I have one print available of "Wheelbarrow.") 50% of total sale will be donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation via ebay's GivingWorks program.

NibbleFest Art Contest - May 2011

Image
I recently joined a group on eBay called NFAC (NibbleFest Art Contest). The purpose of the group is to hold a monthly art competition wherein artists create a piece of artwork based on a theme. The works are then listed for auction sometime between the 20th and 27th of the month and must have a starting bid of $0.99 for the auction. (The thought is to get bidders enticed by the low price for an original piece of art, and then "nibble" away at the auction until the highest bid wins). The artist with the most bids on their auction in the 7 days wins the contest. :) I thought this sounded like a fun way to give art enthusiasts a chance to collect some original artwork. Obviously, most of the pieces are small, but they are originals nonetheless. The theme for May is "Village or Townscape" and I did a quick sketch last night using watercolor pencils. It was a good exercise for me to just give my artist brain a quick exercise, but I also wanted to...
